CFE-EH. John MALTBY, b. Feb. 13, 1786, Woodbury, Conn. (Noah 4,
Jos.3, Dan.2, Wm.1. He is evidently the John Maltby mentioned
in Boyd's "Annals of Winchester, Conn.," as follows:
"John Maltbie came into the society a single man and m. in
1812, Deborah SCOVILL, dau. of Reuben SCOVILL, and had children whose names
are not known. Died Aug. 17, 1827, aged 42."
"Sept. 1, 1827, John Lyman of New Hartford, appointed guardian
of Huldah Maltbie, about 14, Ephraim Maltbie, about 11, and Deborah
Maltbie, about 2 years, children of John Maltbie, deceased."
(Norfolk Probate Rec., Vol. II, p. 528)
"Will of John Maltby of Winchester, dated May 30, 1827; proved
Aug. 20, 1827."
"To my youngest daughter, Deborah, $100 more than to my other
two children.
I give to my daughter, Huldah, one side saddle and her mother's
trunk.
To my son Ephraim my chest and other furniture.
I give to Huldah and Ephraim all the books that have got their
names in--the rest to Deborah.
John Lyman of New Hartford, Executer."
Note. Apparently his wife, Deborah, was dead, as he does not mention
her. I think John Lyman was his brother-in-law, who mar. Salome
Maltby, of New Hartford.
John Lyman was born in 1778.
I have a note, "One of these daughters mar. a Weed, and had a
son, Erwin Weed, who resided in Bristol, Conn."
Children:
VI.686. Huldah Maltby, b. about 1813.
VI.687. Ephraim Scovill Maltby, b. Aug. 16, 1816.
VI.688. Deborah Maltby, b. about 1825.
